Tapping into your inner wisdom: exploring the language of your intuition.
Intuition, what even is it?
Something commonly experienced as a deep knowing “this is right”.
Intuition or ‘Gut Feelings’ are a blend of coherence between Brain, Mind, Heart, Body, Soul and a big splash of self trust!
We often find it a challenge to trust our gut, even though it is always providing us with delicate sensations to tune in to for answers.
‘The body keeps the score’, The title and a phrase from one of my favourite books about complex ptsd and trauma. Bessel Van Der Kolk, a pioneer in somatic psychiatry has been paving the way along with many other body based psychology practitioners, to remind all beings that we are innately interconnected Brain, Mind, Body and that our body always knows what to do, it's our mind that can both stop the bodies processes and enhance them.
Our intuition is connected through all the systems within us that keep us alive.
The Nervous System
The Limbic System
The Respiratory System
The Cardiovascular System
The Gastrointestinal System
The Muscular & Fascial Systems
And so on.
Every system in your Brain, Mind, Body must be in receivership to activate intuition and be able to tune in to innate wisdom. This comes with an ability to find our rhythms and flows through life events that allow us to ‘trust the process’ and make informed choices about the here and now, where to next, and anything else you need to know.
Intuition feels warm & fuzzy, Kind of like a really warm hug from someone who you really deeply love and perhaps feel inspired by.
Being in your intuitive power means you are in your true self-energy. This is a place of connectedness to purpose and impact. Where we see all of the clarity and are aware there will be obstacles too. We are ok with what is, accept what’s been and are patient with the process. This may be fleeting. A gentle reminder though, we felt it and it’s real. To spend more time in your ‘intuitive rhythms’; I recommend clearing any stuck energy from the mind & body. This energy is usually a belief or an emotion that hasn’t quite been expressed to its full potential.
Trying a couple of these somatic practices to discharge, express, or mobilise energy, goes a little something like this;
Take a pause and notice the room you’re in. This is known as orienting. We orient to connect to the space, even if we have been here 1 million times before. Let’s imagine it’s the very first time. What do you notice? About your space, about how you feel, about what you see?
Take a conscious breath in and out. Can you notice where your breath lands in your body at this moment? Try again, this time placing your hands on your chest, then on your front ribs, side ribs, and belly. Explore breathing into your hands at each part of the body.
Heel drops. Standing with your feet hip-width apart, rise onto your toes as you inhale, and as you exhale drop your heels making a thudding noise or sensation through the body. Try this as you expand the length of your inhale & exhale.
‘Shake it off’ - this is one of my all-time favs for releasing pent-up energy. Go for a good 30 seconds to 1 minute of shaking out your body, imagining the energy is releasing out through your body. Once you’ve completed the time; pause and connect to what's there in your body.
ok, so now that you have connected to your body you might feel a little different?
Here are a couple of prompts to get into The Rhythm Of Your Intuition
What does it mean to feel connected to myself?
How do I measure my dignity?
Who inspires me to trust myself? This can be someone you know or it can be someone you don’t personally know but you admire for what they have taught you?
What does it take for you to recognise your intuition is activated?
Finding the Rhythm Of Your Intuition is a process. Always come back to purpose, impact and what you value the most.
Keep well,
